IN-HOME DIABETES CARE

Elderly people have an even tougher time managing diabetes due to the different treatments, monitoring, and adjustments that are needed, but they shouldn’t have to do it alone. At St. Agatha Home Healthcare, our Registered Nurses are available to help clients manage their diabetes right within the comfort of their own home. We have years of experience in diabetes management and are proud to service our Senior Citizens in the Anchorage community to ensure that they get the care that they deserve
Living with any chronic illness brings its own challenges with it. Diabetes is especially tough because when it isn’t properly managed it can lead to other risks such as:
-
Heart disease
-
Diabetes-related wounds
-
Blindness
-
Stroke
-
High blood pressure
-
Kidney disease
-
And other illnesses.
Blood Sugar Level Checking and Regulation
Because diabetes affects insulin levels within the body, causing them to be either too high or too low, it is important to check sugar levels within the blood of a diabetic person. Our registered nurses have the necessary equipment to regularly collect blood samples, as painlessly as possible, to monitor sugar levels.
For those that are living with Type 1 diabetes, the body requires insulin to ensure that sugar is properly absorbed form the blood. This brings along with it the need to track the times in which insulin needs to be injected into the body to ensure that the absorption of blood sugar is consistent and at a safe level.
Our registered nurses can assist with the preparation of needles and needle packets, for those that can inject insulin themselves and prefer to do so. For our clients that prefer, or require, that we inject insulin for them, that is also something we are experienced and qualified in doing.
Coordination with Caregivers
Our Registered Nurses can also coordinate with caregivers to ensure that any medication that has been prescribed by the doctor is handed to the client at the necessary time. Our caregivers also track the times which the client took their medication, so that the doctor’s instructions are followed exactly as required.
Another scenario in which our Registered Nurses would coordinate with caregivers is in providing specific instructions for acceptable food that the client may eat as part of their diet. Because our caregivers are highly trained in the criticality of promoting, or avoiding, certain types of food, they are well aware of how to follow Registered Nurses’ or doctors’ instructions throughout their daily care giving schedule.
Diabetes Treatment Prevents Diabetic Complications
Aside from the lowered risk of heart disease and other illnesses, it should also be noted that in-home diabetic treatment prevents other diabetic complications such as major skin infections and foot-related issues.
